It is a traditional Japanese hand fan, that creates air flow through manual technique, while being able to spray a cooling mist with a press of a button. The handle will be designed to blend with the style of the traditional look of the fan. Small tubes through the device will allow water flow, while a pump creates the needed pressure to spray a mist out of the extremely small openings at the ends of tubes. The fan material itself will be a plastic based cloth like polyester, while not intended to get very wet, if there is a leak or such, it will not be damaged. The batteries will serve the purpose of powering the pump and are therefore essential to the functionality of the product, ensuring they are well stored, to avoid water damage is very important. For this reason, creating some sort of water resistant seal around the minimal electrics of the device is a priority, materials such as silicone would be useful in this purpose.
Quality Products
Manufacturing a quality product is the primary goal of our company; creating an innovative, well designed product that is beneficial to the consumer.
Form and Function
The top most of our product will be the traditional Japanese hand fan, however will have tubes with very small tips nearing the top for water flow. The bottom most will be a handle, of sorts, it will contain the small water storage, the pump and the batteries. The fan material itself will be a plastic based cloth like polyester, while not intended to get very wet, if there is a leak or such, it will not be damaged. Creating some sort of water resistant seal around the minimal electrics of the device is a priority, materials such as silicone would be useful in this purpose.
Marketing
The marketing plan for this product to advertise it as much as possible, giving it exposure through commercials, newspapers, public stores product papers and etc. It will be advertised more throughout the summer season because that’s more likely when our product would be used more and in more seasonally temperate regions where it is hot for longer periods of time.
Testing And Evaluating
Test whether the product fulfills its intended function. Test the durability, such as how long it can go on one charge and how long it can be used without having to refill the water. Material testing, in that do the materials work effectively according to the function, or is there a more efficient replacement that can be made? Structural testing, if the parts fit together well and can continue to function with increased stress on the parts.
Engineers in the pre-constructing stage use a series of simulations to test what can improve, what needs less focus, and what should and shouldn’t be used. For example, in the car industry cars are set up with a series of tests lined up to help the manufacturers and creators see physically what can be improved. Tensile testing is a test where a product is pulled apart until it can no longer function, this helps figure the tension of the product. Stress testing is testing the force applied to a product to see how much it can handle. Material testing is used to see how materials work in comparison
Product testing of aesthetics, ergonomics, safety, and durability guarantees that the products will be functional and will do well in the field. By going through these rigorous tests it will show any weakness that the product may have and so it can be fixed before the product is released commercially.
Assessing the way a product was designed can lead to improvements as it gives designers an opportunity to see if there is a more efficient way they could of done something. For example, evaluating in detail how a product is put together, could expose different ways in which the product could be assembled, whether it be different materials or structural aspects.
Materials
Wood makes up most of the fan as it it the main structural material, something like a laminated bamboo would suit our aesthetic goals, however is not so resistant to stress because of its hardness. Further, according to our current designs, the fans structural components (wood) are going to have to be relatively light to compensate for the weight of the water storage and battery. The supports that run along and through the silk fan are going to have to be resistant to a degree of fatigue, as they will be doing a consistent amount of moving and are relatively thin. We are using silk for the fan component of the fan, as long as it maintains its dexterity through circumstances such as being wet or damp, then it will be a sufficient material to fulfil its task. Silicon is being used for the water pipes and to contain the battery, given this, the silicon used has to be strong and resistant to fatigue as the water pipes that run through the silk fan will be subject to increased amounts of movement compared to the silicon that covers the battery.
Aesthetics
We attempted to modernize a traditional Japanese hand fan, while still maintaining its overall look. Because of this we are using simple materials for the exterior, like wood and silk. Maintaining this traditional look is very important, as it is the whole premise of our product, reducing personal cooling to a simpler time, while simultaneously upholding the modern efficiency we have become accustomed.
Ergonomics
The handle of our product is designed to fit nicely in a person's hand according to global averages. Given this fact, the handle is also made from a laminated wood for a smooth feel in the hand while also preserving the aesthetics.
Durability
The way our product, Japanese hand fan is going to be created and with the materials that are going to be used is expected for the Japanese hand fan to last a pretty long time from about months to years. The life expectancy of the product would also depend on how the customers use it and handle it because the way we are creating our product is produced be be used in any way but not in a way where it can be damaged easily. We believe that the cost of the Japanese hand and all the materials that come with it to make it a very useful and in the same time it would be a trendy type because of the design and colors that are going to be added to the fan and especially because the summer is the upcoming season. The materials that we would be using concerning our Japanese hand fan product would be more of a wood bamboo type but for the bottom where the water would be at would be a securable material because we don't want it disturbing the rechargeable battery part of the fan.
